The
inaugural sports challenge season one will have six determined but generally
fat ‘athletes’ attempting to take home the prestigious ‘best all round
sportsman’ award. Listed below is the participants and their chosen activities
with competition rules / advisory websites included.
Brian Mackain4-1The
youngest and slimmest of the athletes at 25 years old controversially opted for
CHESS as his first sport. After the
organising committee held an emergency meeting it was decided to recognise
Chess as a sport. The rules of chess can be found here >>> www.usefulchess.com/rules/chess_rules.html.
Chess matches will be played best of 3 with 3 points for winner, 1 point for a
draw and 0 pts for a loss in league format, everyone playing each other once.
Bri’s second
sport is 100m RUNNING. This will be
a one off race, first past the post wins the race and takes home 8 overall
points, second gets 6, third gets 4, 4th gets 2, 5th gets
1 and 6th gets nothing.
Carlton Laing18-1He may be the eldest of the sexy six but probably has the
most ‘home advantage’ when it comes to his chosen sports. His first sport GOLF will be a single round of golf
with participants aiming for the lowest score possible, points awarded by
finishing position as per running.Club
rules apply.
Scott Mackain5-2Opting
for his ‘banker’ sport 8 BALL POOL the
former Inverness Under 21 pool champion may have spent the last year sitting on
his backside but should still go close in the final standings. See here for
pool rules >>> http://www.scottishpool.com/infusions/wrapper/wrapper.php?wrapper_id=1
His second
choice is 1v1 BASKETBALL which is
largely unpracticed by any of the competitors since leaving school but shall stilll
be a good physical test of skill and stamina. Regular basketball rules apply
playing first to 21 points with 3 point shots allowed.
James Macrae3-1He might be most people’s favourite
to win due to his proven winning mentality however he is largely untested at
racquet sports and this may prove his downfall. Choosing CURLING as his first sport virtually guarantees 8 points but will
be played in an unusual 1v1 league format best of one end.
Another
sport rarely seen since school days is James’ second choice in SWIMMING with stroke and distance to be
confirmed but should be a very interesting ‘one off’ race regardless.
Allan Laing 12-1The big lad may be an outsider to win
the competition but is capable of pulling off shocks with his height and
presence particularly in basketball and the racquet sports. He has chosen TABLE TENNIS as his first option which
will be a league format best of 3 matches according to the rules found here
>>> http://www.table-tennis-tables.co.uk/shop/table-tennis-rules.html
Next up will
be popular pastime TEN PIN BOWLING which
will see the players play 3 games with scores accumulated together with the
highest total score receiving first place and so on. The final event of the
sports challenge will be followed by the ‘award’ ceremony.
Andrew ‘junior’ Laing2-1FThe quantity of racquetsports chosen which is his strength
makes Junior favourite to win the challenge, opting for TENNIS as his number one sport. The heads up matches will vary from
3 to 5 sets dependent on the participants with everyone playing everyone once.
Second
choice for junior is BADMINTON and
will be similar to tennis except playing up to 21 points and best of 3 games.
