The 4th auction of the season looked relatively uneventfull on paper prior to the auction with little in the way of bargains to be had. The notable inclusion of the mighty Auroborealis was for sale for £2,500 for the 4 year old superstar who has amassed over £5,000 in earnings. The usual claims of people leaving were in force with Bark at the Moon, Colonel Sterling and Pughie selling up.
The big story of the auction though was clearly the newly formed stable Nemesis Stud who surprised everyone by bidding up Pompadours' sale of Auroborealis for the record sum of £3,927.75 making the horse the most expensive virtual horse on Raceclubs. It'll be a tough task for the new owner(s) to make a profit and rumours of who founded the new stable are rife with the favourites being a syndicate of Swedish owners or a couple of former trainers making a return. Whoever it is, best horse and trainer awards will be on the agenda for the next few seasons.
The popular Rememberance sold another of his 'Fly' horses in a private sale to WM Stables which saw £1,000 buy the filly Fly to Stardom. Wm also bought Vintage Victory, Lamashtu (UAE) & Turbulent for a combined total of £537 withTemple of Doom getting sold to Pablo P for £275.55. The shrewd Pablo P also buying Redhalo's pair All gunz blazing & Yaezakura (JPN) for £96 & Mrtug's Spirito Ribelle for a cool £150.
The on form stable at the moment is undoubtable Frank's 'Sky Castle Stables' who has been amassing the qualifier wins and places recently including having the first four home in a recent qualifier. He splashed out approx £280 for Ondrea the Giant and Sabre Blade who both look good value for the cash with finals beckoning at the end of the season. Selling trainer Lewis had some good quality at value prices in this auction and was probably a bit unlucky not to make more from his horses.
TeamJohansson continued his tradition of buying in bulk and the cheaper 'good value' horses with fellow swede opting for the big purchases of three challenge two year olds for a combined total of £1600. Elsewhere four G2 horses were sold for over £50 with Shandyman selling two and West Ham Stables selling the other two.
Award for Best Bargain Hunter goes to Heinz for his £137.55 purchase of Challenge Stayer Iceberge who gets 3200 and only has two wins to his name meaning nice low weights for future racing. The horse has placed in several qualifiers previously including a second place in the Getminted Final last season.
Award for Best Salesman goes to Pompadours for not going over the top with advertising and letting the horse itself do the talking. Congratulations for making almost £4,000 this auction.
