Unofficial Auction Review - May 11th

The 3rd auction of the season seen another few players selling off top quality horses at very cheap prices. Derekw10 followed the footsteps of Andy Hargie and Dallas by selling off his remaining horses in a bundle to Butlers Yard for £1,200. This looks a fien piece of business for Butlers Yard with an average of £120 per horse he is sure to recoup that over the next few seasons. Derek has made regular big money purchases over the last few seasons and is a generally positive person when making forum postings and talking about the game. I wish him the best of luck.

Two other big name stables selling up was Colonel sterling and Carrick Stables, both of whom have some genuine quality in their stables with the star of the show Greek Gladiator who won last seasons Derby and the £1000 first prize that comes with it. Victor Consortio splashed out the £500 necessary to secure the talented classic horse’s services.

The colonel had 20 horses up for sale and sold 11 of them with Lena Al Fuego also going for £500 to Chac’s Champion stal and the £139.09 that Stable 76 paid for Hercules Revolver ensured the Colonel took home £1200+ today.

Carrick Stables sold 11 of his 12 horses for sale with big spender Topcert securing Embrujo Rojo for a mere £400 & the ever popular Allen from Redhalo Racing purchased Fajr for £200. Fajr has only two wins (not including his Class A win) & at 3 years old Allen has plenty options for the sprinter.

The only other horse that went for over £500 was an unraced 2 year old from West Ham Stables now named Black Maurader who went to Hendon Racing Club for exactly £500. Hendon Racing club recently won the first RC Poker Club tournament and I’m sure that prize money has been put to good use here.

West Ham Stables are a new name to myself but had quickly accumulated quite a stable in his 6 months at the game selling off several good horses at very reasonable prices. Sackman took advantage of this with two worthwhile purchases of a good G1 stayer Noblette for £36 & a very good G1 unraced stayer yet to be named. Dodong Stables £51.62 buy of an unraced G1 classic horse now named Million Dollar was a bargain.

You cant do an auction report without mentioning the Swedes Shotgun_Mike & Team Johansson as they always feature somewhere along the line. This week Mike bought 5 G1 horses for between £107 and £281 all of whom are very nice horses - Tiger Woodman, Columbard, Evolutionist, Invincible & Vava Voom. Team Johansson had a relatively quiet week by his standards spending only £178 on 8 horses. The most expensive being Regal Heights from Comeonureds for £90 which looks a solid buy.

Big Spender Mrtug has also announced his intention to leave the game however with 42 plus horses up for sale he only managed to sell 11 of them. Never shy of spending a few quid it looks like his horses wont be cheap as he looks to recoup some of his expenditures.

One other buy I think is worth mentioning is Only Fools N Horses purchase of the talented 3 year old stayer One Legend. I have long since been an admirer of the Colt and £250 looks a very good price indeed for the challenger especially with only 2 wins under his belt.

Award for Best Bargain Hunter goes to DODONG STABLES for picking out the high G1/low challenge unraced 2 year old for the ridiculously cheap price of £51.62. This horse will be one to watch as it wont take long for him to recoup this cash - watch out for MILLION DOLLAR.

Award for Best Salesman goes to nobody! I think buyers were fairly shrewd this auction with not many overpaying. The £315 for Mailaboy’s sprinter filly seemed high but not unusual and recoupable. Shotgun Mike’s packs were not too bad and I was a little surprised to see Aml Racings unraced 2 year old Challenge 4 you sell for as high as £456 but with getminted qualifiers and finals all over classic distances it may well turn out to be a good buy yet.
