Poker Tournament - Sunday April 27th

The first poker tournament for virtual racing enthusiasts took place last Sunday with 20 players exactly taking part. This was a good number for the tournie as it meant two full tables of ten. The structure saw 10 minute blinds & 2000 starting chips for each player with some of the games top stables taking part, most notably was Shotgun Mike who lies second in the earnings statistics for Raceclubs. The talented swede introduced a touch of international flavour to the tournament and with other reputable owners like major chase, formelydvdman & redhalo racing.

Early exchanges saw Shotgun exert early pressure on Shandyman who folded to the swede's icy poker stare. There always needs to be someone first out and that honour went to poor Moreton Marsh (aka Moreton Marsh) when he went out only 5 minutes into level 2 - 15 minutes into the tournament! Tempest (aka Holmewood) then started to take control of the table when he took a $5,461 pot from Pablo P after flopping trip aces with AA in the hole. He played rockets perfectly with Pablo lucky to get away from his hand.

Pompadours was next out when the anonymous Richww's AJ beat his 10J on a J high flop.

Tempest continued to boss his table accumulating chips and knocking several players out on the way to the final table. Smacka (aka Whip Crack Away) did really well to escape from KK on a Q58 9 3 board after Pablo P flopped trip 8's to take down a nice $1975 pot. On the other table Hendon Racing Club (aka Redeyeman) & Forest View (aka woodley) were also accumulating chips well.

The final table saw Tempest as chip leader with $9866 and Pkr Player bringing up the rear in tenth with $973. With Tempest and HRC chip leaders a key hand then developed which was to change the course of the game. A flop of K74 in a raise pot with Richww as the short stack all in saw a betting war take off between chip leaders HRC and Tempest. HRC pushed all in with 77 and was called by Tempest's AK which saw HRC take down a massive $20770 pot and move clear of the rest of the field.

Shotgun Mike came from behind with a steady final table display to put him heads up with Hendon Racing Club to see how they would split the $240 remaining prize money. Fancylester went out in third after a very solid poker display rarely making any mistakes & $60 in winnings.

HRC's big chip lead proved too much for Shotgun and when the board came up 2 4 10 Shotgun's J6 suited gave him a flush draw with HRC's Q2 a pair. The turn was a 10 and the river an Ace not of Shotgun's suit and Hendon Racing Club was victorious! To his delight HRC exclaimed 'its the first thing I have won on raceclubs' to which Shotgun replied 'and its not even on raceclubs!). Congratulations HRC (shame it wasn't in the league)

A high standard of poker was played at the final table with the final hand being dealt 1 hr and 53 mins later. Next weeks tournament will feature a $2500 starting stack and 12 minute blinds (500 chips & 2 mins more than this one). Tournament is at Ladbrokes at 8:30pm UK time on Sunday 4th May.
